Step Up! Step Out!
The
17th Annual Heart & Sole AIDS Walk, a benefit for
Pacific Pride Foundation’s HIV/AIDS programs and
services, will take place on Saturday, October
6th at the Soccer Field at Chase Palm Park.
It’s one of the largest one-day fundraising events in
Santa Barbara County — raising over $1.7 million during
the past 16 years.
The route is 10-kilometers (6.2 miles) and leads walkers
along the beach on Cabrillo Boulevard. The Walk ends
with a beachside celebration with complimentary snacks,
live music, free massages and an awards ceremony.
How You Can Get Involved

Individual:
Follow these guidelines that help explain what to do. Then show up on Saturday,
October 6, 2006 prepared to have a great time while
contributing to a worthwhile cause.

Teams:
Encourage your company, social organization, or a group of

Why We
Need Your Help
Unfortunately, there is still no cure for AIDS. Although
people with HIV/AIDS are living longer thanks to the
recent drug therapies, they must rely on
Pacific Pride Foundation programs and services for a
greater period of time.
 While AIDS deaths are declining, the number of new
infections in California has grown by 200% since 1993 —
increasing our caseload dramatically. In fact, 50% of
these new infections now occur in people under the age
of 25. In Santa Barbara County, 42% of the women
with HIV acquired the virus through heterosexual
contact.
Today, more than 2,100 people in Santa Barbara County
are HIV positive. At least one third of them are unaware
of their status, and yet they can continue to spread the
virus.
For
all these reasons, we’re counting on your support to help us reach our $135,000 goal
for Santa Barbara County’s 17th Annual Heart & Sole AIDS
Walk.
