What is the AIDS Walk?
The 17th Annual Heart & Sole AIDS Walk is on Saturday,
October 6, 2007 at Chase Palm Park's Soccer Field on
Cabrillo near Garden Street in Santa Barbara.
AIDS Walk registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and the Walk
starts at 10:00 a.m. The route is 10 kilometers (6.2
miles) along the beach on Cabrillo Boulevard. The walk
ends with a beachside celebration featuring free snacks,
live music, free massages, and an awards ceremony for
the top fundraisers and most inspiring walkers.
Where does the money go?
All funds raised by the AIDS Walk support HIV education
and prevention activities, 2 food pantries for HIV
positive clients and their families, free individual and
group therapy, primary health care, and quality of life
programs.
The Heart & Sole AIDS Walk is Pacific Pride Foundation’s
largest fundraiser of the year. Every dollar you raise
directly supports Pacific Pride Foundation’s HIV
programs in Santa Barbara County.
How can I help?
As a team captain, you have the most fun and most
important job in the AIDS Walk. Team captains and
individual walkers will join 500 new friends in Santa
Barbara County as we walk for our community. Walkers
gather their friends, family, and co-workers together to
raise money for HIV/AIDS services. Team captains form a
group to walk together and help each other raise money.
Begin by making a list of friends who may be interested
to learn about the walk. Tell your friends why you care,
and why you would like them to join you. Next,
brainstorm how the group can raise your fundraising goal
– we suggest a goal of $250 for each Walker. Here are
some proven ideas:
-
Begin by pledging $50 yourself.
-
Send an email asking friends,
family, and co- orkers to pledge $50.
-
Host a house party, bake sale, or
other fun event to raise money. AIDS Walk staff will
help you with ideas, advertising, and logistics.
-
Just Ask! The hardest part is
remembering to ask. You will be surprised how many
pledges you will get when you ask your grocery
clerk, hair stylist, neighbor…
