The size and composition of
your team is up to you. No minimum number of people is
required. We do, however, recommend recruiting at least
five team members, because the larger the team, the
easier it will be for your team to reach its suggested
goal of $500.
In the past, team leaders
have had success forming teams in many ways. Some ideas:
- Circulate a memo
around your office
- Make phone calls, make
announcements at group meetings
- Go out and round up
people from your daily interactions
- Family members
- Broadcast emails to
your contact lists
You will be successful in
forming a team when you ask. Your enthusiasm is
contagious and most people will be genuinely
complimented that you invited them to be a part of your
AIDS Walk Team. Get the word out there:
- Let everyone in your
office know you are starting a team. If you
organized a team in the past, remember to ask those
team members to return!
- You can hold an AIDS
Awareness talk in the lunch room.
Have a kick-off party.
- Invite Pacific Pride
Foundation to give a presentation about the Walk
(We’d love to make a presentation for your team)!
- If you work in a
building with small firms that do not have teams,
ask them to join your team.
- Inquire about
leaving an AIDS Walk memo in paycheck envelopes.
This memo can be even more effective when it’s
signed by the boss.
Once your team is formed,
select a team name. This can be done by you, or with
input from the entire team. IMPORTANT: If your team name
is different than your company’s name, or if you are an
individual forming a team with friends, please call and
register your team name with Pacific Pride Foundation.
After your team is “up and
walking,” maintain its visibility. We’ll give you AIDS
Walk materials to help you publicize the event. Use
posters, flyers, brochures, and place last year’s Walk
photos on bulletin boards and in lunchrooms, reception
areas, and employee meeting areas. You are our best
publicity!
Be sure to welcome each team
member to your team. Keep plenty of brochures and pledge
sheets on hand. Let your team members know that this is
the core of community building that brings us all
together. We at Pacific Pride Foundation truly
appreciate all of your efforts and your commitment to
the 2007 AIDS Walk.
Step Up! Step Out!
