17th Heart & Sole
AIDS
Walk '07
Saturday, October 6, 2007
Chase Palm Park Soccer Field,
Santa Barbara
Questions: 963-3636 ext. 121
-
The hardest part of fundraising
is remembering to ask. People like to be asked
to help and enjoy pitching in. Asking friends to
help you on your AIDS Walk is especially easy.
People will donate to help out a friend, even if
they don’t yet know how important the AIDS Walk is
to Santa Barbara County. Try it, and see how your
perception changes.
-
Give people a reason to donate.
Friends will be most likely to donate if they have a
good reason. Using a personal example is especially
powerful. You could mention a loved one who is
living with or has died of HIV/AIDS or say that you
want to give back to the community.
-
Start by donating yourself.
It’s easiest to ask for money if you have donated
yourself. Donate an amount that you would want them
to give, like $50.
-
Ask for a specific amount.
Asking for a specific amount, like $50, gives your
sponsor a target and makes it more likely that they
will donate. If you ask someone to give “something”
then ask ‘how much,” they have to make two
decisions. If you ask someone to “donate $50,” then
you are assuming they will donate and they just have
to decide how much.
-
Ask friends to walk with you.
Fundraising is more fun with friends. You can
compete with each other, cheer each other on, and
host a joint fundraising event.
-
Ask everyone to donate. You
will be surprised who will donate to the AIDS Walk.
Family members across the country, colleagues at
work, and neighbors will surprise you. Last year one
walker raised $500 just by sending an email to their
entire address book.
-
Be creative. Hold a bake
sale, organize a yard sale, host a house party,
stand in front of the grocery store, canvass local
businesses, ask someone for $10,000...
-
Invite friends to join you at
AIDS Walk fundraisers. Many fun events will be
happening before the AIDS Walk. Shop at the yard
sale, boogie at the Wildcat Lounge, or dine out to
help raise money for Pacific Pride Foundation.
-
Gather pledges before the AIDS
Walk. It’s easiest to collect your pledges
immediately instead of having to follow up after the
event. Collect any outstanding pledges after the
AIDS Walk and mail them to Pacific Pride Foundation.
-
Ask for matching funds. Many
business will match donations made by employees. Ask
sponsors if their company has a matching gift
program.
Step Up! Step Out!
