Our support network is each other. Unlike the gay and lesbian communities, T's usually do not have a supportive partner, and generally do not seek out others. Often, the last person a T wants to be seen with is another T, because two T's talking makes it so much easier to be spotted as "different," when one simply wants to blend in.
So, how can we support each other? PPF offers support groups in Santa Barbara and North County. Drop in once in a while, and get to know others. We're all at different stages, so this is an opportunity to learn from each other.
Where do I go if I need a place to spend the night, or longer? No such place exists, except by the generosity of others. A few churches are officially "welcoming" to LGBTQI persons, including the two Unitarian congregations: the Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara and the Live Oak Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Goleta. Trinity Episcopal has a gay minister, Mark Asman, supporting an active program. Share your experiences here.
Whether we will ever have a shelter for T's depends on us.
