Outreach & Sensitivity Training
Social and community events are an important part of the life of the Pacific Pride Foundation. We work very hard to provide events that build community and help raise funds to support our programs and services, and we welcome your participation.
Pacific Pride Foundation sponsors a number of special events annually, and more are being added all the time.
- Our summer time Pacific Pride Festival brings community together to educate and celebrate. With a Saturday festival and evening activities all weekend long, Pacific Pride Foundation gives Santa Barbara County residents and visitors ample ways to show their pride.
- AIDS Walk is Pacific Pride Foundation’s largest and most important fundraiser. With proceeds going directly to our HIV/AIDS programs and services, it is a great opportunity to involve yourself in a worthy cause. Be an active part of keeping Santa Barbara County healthy by walking individually, as a team, or by sponsoring this event.
- Sunset @ the the Canary is a monthly cocktail mixer atop downtown Santa Barbara’s only luxury hotel. With breathtaking views of the mountains and ocean, LGBT and allies enjoy appetizers and beverages while mixing and mingling.
- Our youth events target LGBT and allies aged 14-23 and include weekly meetings, Queer Prom, opportunities to volunteer within the community and more.
We are always looking for volunteers to help organize upcoming events as well as doing outreach to the community. For more information call (805) 963-3636.
Pacific Pride Foundation offers an overview course of issues faced by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people as they enter into a therapeutic relationship. Issues covered include: Coming Out, living in a homo/bi/trans –phobic and heterosexist culture, and making your practice more “LGBT friendly” Consultation regarding specific clinical issues is also available.
OUTspoken Speakers Bureau
One of the most effective ways to educate is to interact directly with members of the community. The Outspoken Speakers Bureau is a panel of trained volunteers who are willing to speak about their lives and experiences as LGBT people. The OUTspoken Speaker's Bureau offers panels of diverse and knowledgeable speakers for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and HIV-impacted communities. These panels are available to speak to local schools, colleges, and organizations on topics relevant to the gay community.
Volunteer for the Speaker's Bureau: The Speaker's Bureau receives approximately 5 calls a month requesting someone to go out into the community and speak about a variety of gay and lesbian issues. And with a limited number of speakers in our database, we sometimes struggle to provide speakers for the community. Representing PPF and the LGBT community can really help educate the larger Santa Barbara community. To become a volunteer speaker or to request a speaker or panel of speakers call (805) 963-3636.
The mission of the Safe School Training is to ensure the healthy development of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth by initiating dialogue, providing information and creating support systems in our local schools. The training protects schools by providing information on a topic where resources are either absent or severely lacking. The training addresses suicide and violence toward LGBT youth and other young adults.
